It’s better not to label house keys with anything that clearly reveals your address. If the key is ever dropped, lost, or stolen, a tag that directly links it to your home becomes an invitation. The finder doesn’t just have access; they know exactly where to go.
Instead, use neutral labels. You can write something only you understand – like “H1” or a code – or mention your name and phone number without any address, so a genuine person can contact you if they want to return the key. Some people even use key tags from shops that promise anonymous return services.
Inside your home, where guests might see spare keys, avoid leaving them with visible address documents or mail. The idea is simple: if a key leaves your direct control, it shouldn’t immediately tell a stranger, “Here’s the door this opens.”
