Is it smart to paint all rooms the same colour in a small flat?

Published on:

In a small flat, painting all rooms the same colour can actually be a very smart move, as long as you choose the shade carefully. A consistent colour scheme makes the whole space feel more connected and less chopped up. When your eye moves from room to room without harsh changes, the flat often feels larger and calmer.

Light, neutral colours usually work best for this – soft whites, gentle greiges, light beiges. You can then bring personality through furniture, art, rugs and accessories in each room, rather than changing wall colours constantly.

That said, you can still play with subtle variation. For example, use the same main wall colour everywhere but slightly deeper in the hallway, or add one accent wall in the living room or bedroom using a related tone.

The idea is to create flow, not monotony. One well-chosen main colour that suits your light and style is often better than five different shades fighting for attention in a compact home.
