You don’t need a full professional inspection after every single storm, but it’s smart to at least look for obvious damage from the ground or a safe vantage point after a really severe one. High winds, heavy rain, hail or falling branches can all hurt a roof in ways that are easy to miss until leaks appear.
After a big storm, walk around the property and look up. Do you see missing or shifted shingles, broken tiles, dangling gutters, or branches resting on the roof? Are there new marks on ceilings inside, especially on top floors? If you spot anything suspicious, then a closer inspection – by you if it’s safe, or by a roofer – is a good idea.
Ignoring storm damage because “nothing is leaking yet” can be risky. Sometimes the outer layer is compromised, and water will only start showing inside months later. A quick check after extreme weather is a small habit that can prevent bigger headaches.
