Is it better to buy near your current workplace or where you expect to be in a few years?

This is tricky, because jobs can change faster than homes. A reasonable approach is to look at the bigger pattern of your life, not just your current office address. If you work in an industry that’s mostly clustered in certain areas of the city, buying somewhere with good connections to those zones makes more sense than focusing on one specific building.

If your current workplace is stable and you expect to stay with the same employer for many years, living nearby can be incredibly convenient. Shorter commute means more time with family, more rest, and less stress.

But if you think role, company or even city might change soon, buying purely for this one office may not be wise. In that case, focus on a location that balances commute options, liveability (schools, hospitals, shops, parks) and future resale or rental potential.

Homes usually outlast jobs. So ask: “If my office moved tomorrow, would this location still make sense for my overall life?” If yes, you’re on safer ground.
