One easy method is to plan the layout on paper or with tape on the floor before dragging anything. Measure your main pieces (sofa, bed, table) and sketch the room roughly on graph paper, where each square equals a set number of centimetres. Move the “mini furniture” on paper first and see what makes sense.
If you’re not into drawing, use masking tape on the floor to mark out where a sofa or bed would sit. Walk through the “imaginary” layout: can you move around comfortably? Do doors open fully? Is there enough space to pull chairs out or open drawers?
You can also slide lighter items like side tables and chairs into position to feel the flow, then decide if it’s worth committing to moving the heavier pieces.
Spending 15–20 minutes planning saves your back and avoids frustration from shifting the same wardrobe three times. Once the layout feels right in your head and on the floor, moving the actual furniture becomes a one-time effort, not a guessing game.
