You don’t have to rip up tiles to make winter more comfortable. The easiest fix is to layer warmth on top. Add area rugs or runners in the spots where your feet spend the most time – beside the bed, near the sofa, along the path to the bathroom, in front of the kitchen sink. Even a modest rug makes a big difference to how the space feels.
Use slippers or indoor socks as a house rule in colder months. It sounds simple, but just not walking barefoot on cold tiles changes your experience a lot.
If you want to go one step further, insulated under-rug pads add an extra layer between you and the cold surface, and also make rugs feel softer.
Preventing draughts helps too. Check door gaps and window seals so cold air isn’t constantly chilling the floor. Tiles will always feel cooler than wood or carpet, but with some smart layering, your home can still feel cosy without a full flooring renovation.
