Both matter, but natural light is harder to change later. You can always find creative storage solutions over time – better wardrobes, under-bed storage, shelves, multi-use furniture. But you can’t easily add new windows, change building orientation, or move neighbouring structures blocking the sun.
A naturally bright home usually feels larger, more cheerful and more pleasant to live in, even if it’s not huge. Good daylight also reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day and can help mood and productivity.
Lack of storage can be annoying, but often it’s a solvable problem with planning and discipline. Too much storage, in fact, sometimes encourages hoarding things you don’t need.
So, if you’re torn between a slightly darker place with lots of built-ins and a brighter place with less storage, many people end up happier in the brighter home. Light is something you enjoy every single day; storage you can gradually build.
