Electricians and plumbers are often the backbone of a renovation, so they should be booked well in advance – ideally as soon as your basic layout is decided and you have a rough timeline. Waiting until you’re ready to start work to call them can mean long delays, especially in busy seasons.
These trades usually need time to visit, understand the plan, and coordinate with other work like carpentry and tiling. For example, electrical points must be chased into walls before plastering and painting. Plumbing lines need to be set before floors and tiles are finished. If the electrician or plumber is not available at the right moment, the whole project stalls.
Talk to them at the planning stage, agree on broad dates, and keep them updated as work progresses. Even if exact days shift a bit, having them “on the radar” is far better than scrambling at the last minute. Think of them as partners in the project, not just emergency helpers.
